Lock Your Car-Take Valuables With You. "Don't Be a Victim" of Vehicle Burglary

Theft of personal items has on the rise in certain Marina rel Rey communities.

To heighten awareness and empower the community as they assist us in our effort to combat this problem, Marina del Rey Station dispatched Volunteers on Patrol (VOP) to randomly check 30 vehicles within the Windsor Hills, Ladera Heights and View Park residential area. The results were astounding; 24 out of 30 vehicles were found unsecured.

The degree of which ranged from windows rolled down, door unlocked, and trunk open. Seven of those vehicles had items of value “In Plain Sight”. The concerned vehicles were secured and left a “Don’t Be Victim” notice from Marina del Rey Station. A roll call of shame for the addresses where the vehicles were registered was read aloud during a subsequent Neighborhood Watch meeting held at Monteith Park, February 23, 2013.

More than 100 citizens were in attendance. Needless to say, some were embarrassed. In Plain Sight, Lock it or Lose it.
