Derrick Edwards, 23, of San Bernardino was arrested by South Los Angeles Station deputies early Sunday Morning after leading them on a short vehicle and foot pursuit.

Deputies first spotted Edwards driving a reported stolen vehicle near 89th Street and Normandie Avenue in the Athens area and attempted to stop him. Edwards refused to yield and led deputies on a short vehicle pursuit to the 1000 block of West Century Boulevard, where he lost control of his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Several deputies quickly contained the area and arrested Edwards without incident a short time later.

A loaded black handgun similar to the one shown in the photo was found inside the vehicle Edwards had been driving. A registration check of the gun revealed that it had been reported stolen out of Washington State.

Edwards, who was determined to be on parole, was booked at South Los Angeles Station on a variety of charges including auto theft and being an ex-felon in possession of a loaded stolen firearm. His bail was set at $70,000.00.
