K-9 walkthroughs at Columbia Schools

On Monday, March 18, 2013, the Columbia Township Police Department conducted walk-throughs with K-9 officers at Columbia Schools, including the High School, the Options School, and the Middle School.

This is typically a twice-yearly occurrence wherein Columbia Township Police arrange this walk-through. It is done proactively, and although scheduled approximately a week ago, it is not announced ahead of time, for the obvious reason.

On this visit, four Michigan State Police K-9’s were utilized. In addition to taking the k-9’s through the hallways of the noted schools, the vehicles in the parking lots were visited by the K-9’s as well. Occupied classrooms are not walked through with the K-9’s, and although not technically a lockdown, the students are kept in the rooms while the walk-throughs are conducted.

There were no narcotics found at any of the schools, and all officers cleared without incident. The assistance of the Michigan State Police K-9’s is greatly appreciated in helping keep our schools safe.
