Give us your drugs

Did you know you can surrender unwanted drugs to law enforcement with no repercussions? Well you can.

In accordance with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s “Safe Drug Drop-off” program, anyone can safely and anonymously dispose of expired or unused prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, syringes, and other controlled substances by dropping them into one of three specifically designated mailboxes located near the front entrance of South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station.

“This is a convenient and environmentally safe way for a person to get rid of old or unused medications,” said South Los Angeles Station Captain Eli Vera. Captain Vera added, ‘it’s also a way for someone trying to kick a drug habit to dispose of his or her drugs without fear of being arrested.”

Saving unused or expired medications can lead to improper and illegal use if they fall into the wrong hands. Children and others may access these medications from medicine cabinets and either use them inappropriately, sell them or give to others for illegal and unintended uses. A safer solution for the environment is to bring your old medications to South Los Angeles Station and drop them off.

South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station is located at 1310 West Imperial Highway, Los Angeles. For more information about this program, please call South Los Angeles Station at (323) 820-6700.
