Arrests made in the Cowgill Murder
Today, the Dallas Police Department’s Homicide detectives arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Ms. Avanell Cowgill that occurred on March 7, 2013, in the 11300 block of Earlywood Drive.
After committing the murder, the suspects, identified as David Herron W/M/29 and Daniel Brooks W/M/28, took Ms. Cowgill’s purse and then used her credit cards to purchase an electronic device at a local Walmart. This purchase was captured on surveillance video. The suspects were also filmed attempting to make an ATM withdrawal from Ms. Cowgill’s account.
Detectives developed information which led them to a location where the suspects had sold the electronic device. There, detectives learned the identity of Suspect Brooks. Further investigation determined that Suspect Brooks and Suspect Herron were in a Richardson jail after being arrested on March 20, 2013, for an unrelated Theft of Person charge. This arrest stem from a joint effort by the Deployment Officers from the Dallas Police Department’s North Central Patrol Division and the Richardson Police Department. Both suspects have been interviewed by Dallas Homicide detectives and are currently being transported to Lew Sterrett Justice Center where they will be charged with Capital Murder. The bond has been set at $1 million dollars each.
