REMINDER: New Online Gun Purchase Permit Program begins Monday April 1st.
REMINDER: Beginning next Monday. Our gun permit purchase program will become completely online. This will hopefully help eliminate you from making multiple trips to the Sheriff's Office. You will only have to make one trip and that is to simply pick up your permits. Come Monday morning, you will go the County website, under Sheriff's Office, under the Gun Permits page. There will be a link for the Permit Program. You will basically fill out the application online just as you would any other type of online application program. Name, DOB and all your personal information. Then there is a page for all the required questions such as criminal history etc. Once the application is completed, you will then pay for your permits right then and there. Same as always, $5 each, up to 5 permits. There is also a one time $3 service fee that is charged to you, but this is not charged by the Sheriff's Office, but by the company that created the software program. However, $3 is a small fee to pay if it eliminates you from making multiple trips here, especially with gas near $4 a gallon. Just a note: The $5 per permit fee is non-refundable even if you are denied a permit. You should have a good idea before you apply if you are eligible for a permit or not.
Once we receive the application, it will be processed just as we normally do and you will be notified once it has been approved or denied. All correspondence is automatically sent to you via email depending on which stage of the application process your application is at. You can also go back to the webpage and check the status at anytime.
We believe this will help eliminate multiple trips to the Sheriff's Office, along with the long wait times that people are currently incurring when coming to the Sheriff's Office. We are continually looking for ways to streamline all of our processes and make them more user friendly for you.
NOTE: As of right now, this only applies to Gun Permit Purchases, and does not affect Concealed Handgun Permit Purchases. We are looking at other ways to streamline that process as well.
