At 1:01Am, Friday, April 12, 2013, deputies from Pico Rivera Sheriff's Station responded to the 11500 block of Perkins Ave, Whittier (unincorporated) regarding a call of a gunshot victim.
When deputies arrived they found that a 64-year-old man had been shot in the forearm while sitting in a parked car with a 33-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy.
The victims, all residents of Whittier, said that while sitting in the car, a man wearing a ski mask over his face and holding a gun approached the car on the front passenger side and demanded the victims’ money.
The driver put the vehicle in reverse and backed up several feet. The suspect fired one round, striking the driver in the forearm.
The victims got out of the car and gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money and two gold bracelets.
The suspect then ran from the scene.
The injured victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
The relationship between the victims has not been determined.
The suspect is believed to be Hispanic, he is of medium build and was wearing dark clothing and a ski mask over his face.
