Annual Bicycle Rodeo at Riley Elementary May 11th at 9:00am

Riley, Seelyville, and Honey Creek Fire Departments are teaming up with the Indiana State University Police Department to once again host the Annual Bicycle Rodeo. The Bicycle Rodeo is a one day, free event that takes place on the south parking lot of Riley Elementary School and targets children in grades K-5 that reside in Honey Creek, Lost Creek, and Riley Townships. This year’s Rodeo will take place on May 11, 2013 with check-in beginning promptly at 9:00am.

Bicycle Officers from Indiana State University will instruct children on the safe operation of their own bicycles. Following a short safety briefing, children will peddle through a simulated road coarse set up within the school’s parking lot.

In addition to the activities for children, fire department personnel will have a variety of safety and prevention material on hand to distribute to the parent’s while they wait for their child to complete the course.

Each child is asked to bring his or her bicycle and helmet. Bicycles will be inspected for safe use and each helmet will be inspected to ensure proper use and fit. The fire department will provide helmets for any child that does not presently have a helmet or if their present helmet does not fit properly or is found to be defective or non-approved.

At the completion of the day, all student participants will be entered into a drawing for a new bicycle!

To register your child for this year’s rodeo please visit our website at www.rileyfire.com and print a registration form. Please return the completed form to the Riley Fire Department no later than Wednesday May 1, 2013.

We look forward to seeing you!
