MEDIA RELEASE – MARCH 20, 2013
MAN STABBED BY AQUAINTANCE IN FLEMINGTON
Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III and Flemington Borough Police Chief George Becker announce the arrest of one individual after a joint investigation in Flemington.
According to Chief Becker, “On Saturday March 16th, at 2:58 AM, Flemington Borough Police Officers Bradley Bullman and Charles Browne responded to the Hunter Hills Apartment Complex for a report of a male cut with an unknown object. Upon arrival, the officers located the victim in his apartment with a laceration to his neck. The victim, who appeared to be intoxicated, was treated by the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad and brought to the trauma center at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital for the treatment of his injuries.”
Prosecutor Kearns stated, “Flemington Borough Police Detective Michael Mariaschin and Detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutors Office investigated the incident and determined that an acquaintance of the victim had caused the injury. Evidence obtained by Detectives identified Florencio Salvador Reyes-Cruz, (Pictured to the Left) age 38 of Flemington, as the suspect. Mr. Reyes-Cruz allegedly slashed at the victim’s neck with a small knife for an unknown reason while drinking in the victim’s apartment. He then fled the scene prior to police arrival.”
On Monday March 18th, Detectives were able to track down Mr. Reyes-Cruz to a location on Route 22 in Readington Township where Readington Township Police Officer Peter Serrone arrested him without incident.
Mr. Reyes-Cruz was charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. He is currently lodged in the Hunterdon County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail set by Flemington Borough Municipal Court Judge Eric Perkins. It was later learned that Reyes-Cruz was sought in a similar incident in Pennsylvania.
Prosecutor Kearns and Chief Becker jointly stated that the timely identification and arrest of this dangerous suspect was a direct result of great police work by all officers involved.
