As the warm weather approaches, the Palos Heights Police Department wants to remind its citizens to lock their car doors and windows, to prevent thefts from motor vehicles. These types of thefts typically occur in the late evening to early morning hours, and almost always involve unlocked motor vehicles.
Items taken during these types of thefts have included but are not limited to GPS units, MP3 players, wallets, purses, credit cards and miscellaneous cash and change.
The Palos Heights Police Department is reminding residents to take at least two very simple preventative steps:
1) Locking their car doors, windows and setting their car alarms.
2) Not leaving valuable items in their cars, especially in plain view.
Residents are urged to report any suspicious persons, especially those who may be walking down residential streets/driveways in the overnight hours and looking into car windows and trying door handles. Please immediately report any suspicious persons or activity by calling 9-1-1.
- Lock your car’s doors and windows, and set the car alarm.
- Don’t leave valuables in your car, especially in plain view for anyone to see.
- Don’t leave any evidence of valuables. Put all GPS mounts, MP3 player docking stations,
etc, away as most burglars will see those and break-in trying to find where you hid the items.
- Report any suspicious persons or suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.
