Ten Steps to Prevent Auto Theft
1. Do not EVER leave the keys in the car.
2. Park your car in a well-lighted area of the parking lot.
3. Lock your car.
4. Keep valuables (or anything that make look valuable) out of sight, lock them in the trunk or under cover.
5. High-tech sound equipment? Get the removable type and take it inside with you.
6. Cell phone/GPS? Don't park with these items in view. LOCK IT, HIDE IT, KEEP IT!
7. Have a car alarm installed.
8. Consider buying a steering wheel locking device and use it.
9. Consider installing a "tracking system", it helps law enforcement track it down.
10. Finally, the five places NOT to leave your car running while you "just go in for a minute:"
If you witness suspicious activity, call for immediate police assistance. Be prepared to provide the suspect(s) physical description: clothing, height, weight, as well as suspect(s) vehicle description: make/model, color, and license plate number.
