On Thursday, April 25, 2013 the Slocomb Police Department was contacted in reference to a possible student having a firearm at school. Information was gathered and it was determined that a student did in fact bring a Glock 9mm handgun to school. The police department received the call at 08:30 hours and the investigation was started. The Slocomb High School Administration received information as well pertaining to a possible firearm on campus.
The Slocomb Police Department and Slocomb High School Administration did respond to the allegations and did have a male juvenile and the firearm in custody by 08:39 hours. The Geneva County Superintendant of Schools was immediately notified as well Geneva County Probation Office. The male student was arrested and transported to the Slocomb Police Department.
The male student was charged and taken before Geneva County Juvenile Judge and was transported to South Alabama Youth Diversion Center in Dothan, Alabama. The staff and students at Slocomb High School and Slocomb Middle School are to be commended for their actions during this investigation. All action taken was in accordance with the safety of the staff and students in mind.
The investigation has determined that no one individual at the school was targeted or threatened by the male subject. The case is still under investigation.
