The Anne Arundel County, Maryland Office of Emergency Management would like you to be aware of the following. Anne Arundel County, in conjunction with the City of Annapolis, has an Emergency Mass Notification System capable of reaching thousands of residences and businesses in a matter of minutes. A pre-recorded message with important information can be delivered to a live person, an answering machine or TTY/TDD device. The application, called CodeRED, is a geographical-based web application.
Not every residence or business may be in the system, and many citizens have moved away from landline phones and are exclusively using cellular phones.
Because of this, The Office of Emergency Management would like to encourage all residents and businesses to register on our CodeRED page. http://www.aacounty.org/OEM/CodeRED.cfm
Registrants can sign up to receive alerts via e-mail or on their cell phone including text messages. Emergency notifications could include information regarding how to prepare for impending severe weather (Hurricane Preparedness, Flooding Preparedness, etc), or other life threatening situations. Citizens can opt-in to receive general notifications as well. For example, in the past county agencies have contacted communities to warn against a rash of break-ins in their area or for changes in trash pick-up.
