STOLEN AUTO ARRESTS
CROFTON
On Thursday, May 2, 2013, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Western District officer was on patrol in the area of Canter Farms in Crofton, Maryland, when he observed two vehicles traveling in close proximity to one another. The officer believed the two vehicles may be involved in the theft of motorcycles so he maintained a position of observation to monitor their movements.
As the vehicles turned onto Forksbridge Court, the driver of one of the vehicles, a white minivan, bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot towards Nantucket Elementary. The officer then approached the driver of the second vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Malibu, and immediately detained him.
After looking inside the white minivan, the officer saw that the ignition switch had been damaged, indicating that the vehicle was possibly stolen. He then provided a description to responding units in order to conduct a canvass of the area for the suspect that fled on foot.
With the assistance of K-9 and numerous officers, an extensive search of the area was conducted. While conducting the search, the suspect that fled on foot called 911 and advised that he was the suspect that officers were looking for and he wanted to turn himself in. Officers then responded to his location, where they arrested the suspect.
Investigation later revealed that the minivan had been recently stolen earlier today from a home in Crofton. Both suspects were arrested and transported to Western District.
Suspect #1: Kevin M. Wilkins, 25, of 10912 Hackberry Court, Clinton, Md (fled on foot)
Suspect #2: Darrel Lamont King, Jr., 29, of 6411 Forrest Road, Cheverly, Md
