Following the Cinco de Mayo Festival at Whittier Narrows Park in South El Monte, two people were arrested in the attempt stabbing of a 28 year-old male. The Festival had ended and people were heading to the parking lot to leave when a confrontation between two males occurred. Witnesses say that Gonzalo Hernandez, Male 25 years-of-age got into an argument with the victim when he produced a knife and attempted to stab him. Sheriff’s personnel who were working the event responded within seconds and separated the two men. Esmeralda Cardenas, Female, 31 years-of-age, girlfriend of Mr. Hernandez attempted to conceal the knife from the deputies who were investigating the incident.
Mr. Hernandez was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and is being held in lieu of $30,000.00 bail. Ms. Cardenas was arrested for being an accessory to a crime and is being held in lieu of $20,000.00 bail. Both are residents of El Monte and were booked at Temple Sheriff Station.
