On 24 October 2013 at 10:22 pm, officers responded to the report of a man with a pistol approaching vehicles at the McDonald's on FM 3040. Officers Hernandez and Limon made a "known risk" traffic stop after locating the suspect vehicle. They were joined by Officer Jonmichael Martinez to assist. The suspect failed to follow directions exiting his vehicle with a pistol in hand. The suspect raised the pistol toward the officers who fired striking the suspect. The suspect did not survive his wounds. For their bravery and courage in the performance of their duties all three officers were awarded the Medal of Valor award.
