HARDEN YOUR TARGET- CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
Always lock your windows and doors when you go out, even if only for a few minutes. Close your garage door unless you are working in the garage.
All exterior doors should be of a solid core construction and have a deadbolt lock, including the door leading from the garage into your home. These doors should also be equipped with a security strike plate using 4 to 6 three inch screws. The screws should affix the strike plate to the home’s structure not just the frame of the door.
If you have a safe, make sure it is properly secured to a concrete floor with bolts so that it cannot easily be removed.
Try to be home when house cleaners come. Do not leave a key under the mat for them.
Always keep your front porch light on as well as the backyard. Utilize motion detector lighting for the driveway area or along the sides of your home.
Keep landscaping trimmed down around doorways, windows and light fixtures
When on vacation, have a trusted neighbor take in your trash cans, pick up your mail and newspapers. You can also have Police Services Retired Senior Volunteers check your property while gone. Please call RSVP (949) 361-8269 to schedule.
Lock vehicles and remove all property. Use your car alarm. Park in well- lit areas.
When parking outside of your garage, treat your garage door opener as if it were a key to your home and remove it from your vehicle.
Participate in the Neighborhood Watch program to deter crime and keep our community safe. Partnerships, training and direct communication is necessary in maintaining safe neighborhoods.
Please report suspicious activity – (949) 770-6011. 9-1-1 for emergencies.
