Captain Ed Bish has announced his retirement effective Saturday, May 18, 2013. Ed has served the City for nearly twenty-eight years!

Ed was hired as a Reserve Police Officer on July 15, 1985, and advanced to Police Officer on January 20, 1986. He was promoted to Police Sergeant on December 29, 1995, and advanced to Police Lieutenant on October 24, 2003. On July 10, 2009, Ed was promoted to the position of Police Captain.

During his tenure, Captain Bish has worked as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Narcotics Investigator, K-9 Handler, Special Enforcement Unit Sergeant, West County S.W.A.T. Commander, and Chief’s Adjutant. He currently commands the Investigations Bureau.

Ed has participated in the Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay and has been involved on many Departmental committees. He has also been active in the community and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Hotline of Southern California. Ed was honored as the Cypress Police Officers’ Association 1994 Officer of the Year.

Captain Bish is a graduate of the Golden West Police Academy and has been awarded his Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, and Management P.O.S.T. certificates. He has also attained a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Long Beach, is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, and successfully completed the P.O.S.T. Command College.

Throughout his career, Ed has received numerous letters from the members of the public acknowledging his efforts as well as certificates of commendation from the Chief of Police.
