Deputies Rush Into Burning Apartment and Rescue Pico Rivera Man
Deputies Rush Into Burning Apartment and Rescue Pico Rivera Man.
On May 08, 2013, at approximately 1:29 AM, deputies from Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Station responded to a structure fire at an apartment complex on the 8600 block of Whittier Boulevard in the City of Pico Rivera.
When Deputy Michael Calderon and Deputy George Madrid arrived, they observed thick black smoke inside of an apartment. Neighbors told the deputies there was a person inside. Disregarding their own safety, the deputies immediately entered the unit and found an unconscious male Hispanic, age 51, on the ground. Deputies went inside and pulled the male to safety.
Firefighters arrived and treated the male and the two deputies for smoke inhalation. The deputies were treated at a local hospital and released. The male remained at the hospital in serious, but stable condition. He suffered burns to his face and body, but due to the courageous acts by Deputy Calderon and Deputy Madrid, the man is alive today.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
