Riley Fire Department was host to Vigo County Local Emergency Planning Committee’s sponsored Hazardous Materials Technician course for the last 8 weeks. The course consists of 80 hours of classroom and practical skills that provides firefighters the skills necessary to mitigate most Hazardous Materials incidents. Today the students moved closer to completing their class with the Indiana Practical Skills Test. Students were required to demonstrate a wide variety of skills that they learned over the last 8 weeks for an evaluator. Following completion of the practical test, the students are required to take a 100 question written test. 5 students completed today’s evaluation with an additional 3 certified Technicians attending for a refresher. Riley Fire Department makes its training facility available to any public safety agency at no cost.
