National Peace Officers Day
Morning residents of Montgomery,
As many of you may already know.. today is National Peace Officers Day. The holiday was created on October 1, 1961, when Congress asked the President to designate May 15 to honor Peace Officers. President John F. Kennedy signed the bill into law October 1, 1962.
"Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week pay tribute to the local, State, and Federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect us with courage and dedication. These observances also remind us of the ongoing need to be vigilant against all forms of crime, especially to acts of extreme violence and terrorism."
I would like to personally thank the officers who represent this department and city with pride, ethics and professionalism. This thanks includes all the men and women across the United States who put on a uniform everyday, not knowing what obstacle they will face during their shift and or if they will return home to their loved ones.
To the Fallen Officers, I say "Thank You"... for your Dedication, Courage and Honor shall always be remembered.
Respectfully,
