Woodway Police Department began using a Vigilant Solutions Automated License Plate Reader(A.L.P.R.) installed in one of its patrol cars over a month ago. The device scans license plates while officers are driving on routine patrol, and notifies the officer if a vehicle is stolen, or has information entered into its databases for missing persons, wanted vehicles, or wanted persons associated with any vehicle. On 5/16/2013 at approximately 9:00 pm, Officer Khalil El-Halabi received a "Missing/Endangered" person alert on a vehicle parked at the Motel 6 in Woodway. The Missing/Endangered person was located by the officers based off of the A.L.P.R. detection and is currently being evaluated. This new tool has also proved to be valuable in locating numerous wanted persons throughout the past month.
