(Update) Sat.,9:12PM, Deputy Involved Shooting, 6100 blk Miramonte Blvd, South LA - LASD Century Station
On Saturday evening, May 18, 2013 at about 9:12PM, Century Sheriff's Station (http://www.Century.lasd.org) deputies were patrolling in a marked patrol car when they saw the suspect riding his bicycle south on Miramonte Boulevard from 60th Street in an unincorporated area of South Los Angeles County.
The bicycle did not have a headlight or taillight and the suspect appeared to be intoxicated. The deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the suspect refused to stop and continued to ride away from them.
The suspect rode his bicycle down a driveway to the back of a residence in the 6100 block of Miramonte Blvd., South Los Angeles (LACo.).
The deputies followed the suspect on foot and when they attempted to contact him, the suspect punched one of the deputies in the face. The suspect then charged the deputies, knocking himself and the deputies to the ground.
While struggling with the suspect on the ground, family members of the suspect exited the house and began yelling and kicking at the deputies. During the altercation, the suspect produced a handgun which he had secreted on his person. The deputies each fired one time, striking and killing the suspect.
The suspect's handgun was recovered at the scene. The deputies were not seriously injured during the struggle with the suspect.
After officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office arrived, a second handgun (replica semi-automatic handgun/air pistol) was found under the body of the suspect when he was moved.
According to Century Sheriff's Station gang detectives, several of the individuals who reside at that location and who came to the aid of the suspect are members of a local street gang.
