LAKE LURE POLICE DEPARTMENT - WEAPON, DRUGS AND A FUGITIVE
Corporal Cory Hill and Reserve Officer Ryan Bailey conducted a traffic stop on Memorial Highway at 2am Tuesday May 21, 2013. During this traffic stop Corporal Hill sighted a gun in the middle console. Both the driver, James Jasper Beach Jr., and his passenger, John David Witherspoon were removed from the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle Corporal Hill located drug paraphernalia (pipe, spoon, etc), scales and Methamphetamine. After speaking with Mr. Beach, Corporal Hill was able to determine that the items found were his. The weapon found was also Mr. Beach’s. He did not have a Concealed Weapons Permit.
Mr. Beach was placed under arrest for one felony count of possessing Methamphetamine, and a misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia.
Corporal Hill conducted a warrant check on both subjects wherein he discovered a warrant was outstanding for John David Witherspoon. The Cleveland County felony warrant was for Breaking and Entering.
Both subjects were taken to Rutherford County Detention Center. Mr. Beach was incarcerated with a $10,000 bond. Mr. Witherspoon was awaiting extradition to Cleveland County.
