An increase in bike thefts has occurred throughout the City of Tustin and last year it was the number one reported crime. Tustin Police Department is asking for your help to reduce this trend. Please inform your family, friends, and neighbors to take measures to prevent their bikes from being stolen! Here are some suggestions:

KEEP IT OUT OF SIGHT!
If a thief cannot see it, they probably won’t steal it. Since, most crimes are “crimes of opportunity”, keeping bikes out of sight reduces a thieves opportunity to steal it.

LOCK IT UP!
Make sure to lock up your bike. An unlocked or unattended bike is an open invitation for any thief! You should always secure your bike, even when leaving it for a brief period.
Here is a list of the different types of locks on the market:
• Cable lock, Basic cable, Coiled, Armored, Chain with padlock, D or U Lock, Cuff shackles, Disc lock

REGISTER YOUR BIKE!
You can bring your bike into the Tustin Police Department during business hours to register your bike and it’s FREE! By registering your bike it would assist in returning the bike to you and in prosecuting the offender, in the event your bike is stolen.

Requirements:
• No appointment needed
• Must be a resident of the City of Tustin
• Must bring bike with you at the time of registration

Always REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY! If you’re not sure if it’s suspicious call us and let us decide. Note the descriptions of any suspicious persons and/or vehicles. Help be the eyes of your neighborhood and remember you can always be a pair of anonymous eyes!
