South Los Angeles Station Deputy injured during vehicle pursuit
A South Los Angeles Station deputy was injured earlier this morning when the driver of a vehicle he and his partner were pursuing intentionally ran into him.
The incident began about 10:00 a.m. when the deputies attempted to stop the vehicle for a routine traffic violation.
The pursuit, which took place on various surface streets lasted approximately 3-4 minutes and reached speeds in excess of 60 MPH. The pursuit ended when the occupants bailed out in an alleyway and attempted to flee on foot.
Assisting units quickly arrested Luis Ramirez, 19, Jose Garcia, 20, and Estevan Mendoza, 25, all of whom are suspected gang members. A sawed-off shotgun was recovered from the scene at the time of their arrest.
The driver of the vehicle, who was described as a male Hispanic adult managed to escape and is still being sought.
The deputy who was injured was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Suspects Ramirez, Garcia, and Mendoza were booked at South Los Angeles Station on a variety of charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. Their bail was set at $50,000.00.
