As has been mentioned recently, Mountain View has experienced a significant increase in residential burglaries in recent times. This phenomena is not unique to Mountain View as evidenced by similar trends in surrounding cities in our area.

On May 30, 2013, at approximately 6:43pm, a resident was napping inside his locked residence in the 1000 block of Bryant Avenue near Mountain View High, where the city border meets Los Altos. The resident heard the doorbell ring but went back to sleep only to soon awaken to a male inside his bedroom. Upon seeing the resident in bed, the suspect scurried from the bedroom and fled the residence on foot while taking the resident's wallet and cellphone. It is believed the suspect may have entered a side garage door then into house from the garage.

The suspect is described as a black male juvenile, 15-25 years of age, 5'10"-6' tall, thin lean built, short hair, wearing a dark brown sweater and blue jeans. There was a silver sedan, no further description, that had been seen parked in front of the residence but was quickly gone.

All residents are encouraged to remain diligent to always keep all doors and windows locked and secured. This includes garage doors that provide access to interior doors into the home. In order to avoid thefts from open garages, residents are asked not to keep their garages standing open for significant lengths of time including the larger vehicle garage doors. Burglars commonly ring the doorbell to see if anyone is home before breaking and entering. This is why it is important to let them know you are home. You can also leave a radio or TV on to give the appearance that someone is home.

Residents are always asked to report all suspicious activity be it subjects, vehicles, or otherwise, to the Mountain View Police Department via 911 or the non-emergency line of (650) 903-6344.
