Enid Police officers responded to a report of a robbery this afternoon at Wal Mart, 5505 W. Owen K. Garriott. Dispatchers received a 911 call and were told that a man was trying to rob a woman inside of the store. Wilma Brierly, 55, was shopping in the shoe department inside of Wal Mart. A man grabbed her wallet which was laying in her shopping cart near her. Brierly grabbed the man to try and stop him but he pushed her to the ground causing minor injuries. Brierly screamed which alerted other store patrons that were nearby. Other customers started following the man who was trying to leave the store. He dropped the wallet in the store before he fled and made it to his vehicle. The customers followed him to his vehicle and obtained a description of the vehicle. It was a Dodge pickup that was maroon in color bearing OK tag 654AMU. The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle.

Dispatchers gave out the description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle over the radio to other officers out patrolling. Officer Jeff Suttmiller and new recruit Officer Michelle James were patrolling Southbound at 1200 N.
