On Thursday, June 6, 2013, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. the Tri-City Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) for the cities of Gardena, Hawthorne and Lawndale will be hosting a meeting for the community as well as all C.E.R.T. Members. The meeting will be held at the Gardena Valley Baptist Church, 1630 West 158th Street, Gardena, California, Room 201. The topic of the meeting will be the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing Terrorist Attack Review. Retired Santa Monica Fire Chief Jim Hone will be the guest speaker.
On April 19, 1995, a large vehicle borne improvised explosive device was detonated in front of the nine story Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK. The blast resulted in 782 injured victims and 168 fatalities. Santa Monica Fire Chief Jim Hone (retired) was the Interior Operations Chief responsible for directing and coordinating the rescue and recovery activities inside the building during the first ten days following the explosion. Jim will share detailed information about the local and federal emergency response to this incident.
Following the presentation, there will be a practice "Bleeding Control and Splinting" skills that were used extensively during the initial response to this incident.
