THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS A RE-BROADCAST OF INFORMATION THAT WAS DISSEMINATED BY THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION REGARDING A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE IN THE CROFTON AREA

As some of you are aware, there have been several reports of children being approached by a white van in the Crofton area in recent days. The instances, which all happened off of school property, were reported to police. This morning, using a tag number provided by a member of the public, police interviewed the owner of the van. The man is a painter who is working in the area. Police have closed this investigation and do not believe there is any threat to children at this point.

Still, these incidents provide a good opportunity to talk to children about being aware of their surroundings and:

1. Walking in a groups or at least with one other person
2. Being aware of their surroundings
3. Developing a plan of action if a stranger approaches them
4. Reporting anything unusual or upsetting to a responsible adult (parent, guardian, school staff member, police officer, etc.) immediately.
