The Salem County Prosecutor has reported a recent telemarketing scam, which has affected some Salem County residents. The calls have originated from an 876 area code. This code is a Jamaican exchange. During the reported incidents, the scammers proclaim to be government officials or lawyers reporting that the victim had won a sweepstake. The scammers will ask the victim to send the required tax, customs payment or insurance payment. Although no reports have been filed in Woodstown, the WPD wishes to alert our residents to be on guard. Any such calls should be terminated, disregarded and reported to WPD.
