Private Well Contamination near Arnold Engineering

The City of Marengo recently received notification from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) regarding groundwater contamination around the Arnold Engineering facility, located at 300 N. West Street, Marengo, IL. The city’s water supply and distribution has not been affected by this contamination. Arnold Engineering and the six households that have well contamination are not within the city’s corporate boundaries. The city’s drinking water is tested on a daily basis and remains in compliance with IEPA standards.

IEPA samples of private wells in the area of concern have shown contamination levels greater than Class 1 groundwater standards in the State of Illinois. At this time the IEPA is requiring Arnold Engineering to provide bottled water to any private well owners in the area of concern. The IEPA is evaluating long-term alternatives at his point and recommends all private well owners in the area have their wells tested. Test kits are available at City Hall, 132 East Prairie Street. If you have any questions please contact City Hall at 815-568-7112.
