Advisory

The Columbia Township Police Department is investigating a burglary at a Cement City church.

The Columbia Township Police Department is investigating a burglary discovered on Sunday night, June 23, at approximately 11:32 P.M., at Cement City Baptist Church on Cement City Road, near Cary Road. Officer Szentmiklosi responded following a nearby resident hearing the sound of breaking glass, and having called 911.

Upon arrival, Officer Szentmiklosi located a window on the North side which had been pried open, with the glass also broke out of it. Officer Szentmiklosi requested assistance to set up a perimeter, and units from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, as well as Napoleon Township Police, responded and assisted. The Sheriff’s Department K-9 tracked for a distance from the scene to nearby Miller Elementary, although no suspect was located.

A search of the building revealed a suspect or suspects had in fact been inside the building, and had entered the office area. An inventory is being conducted to determine if anything was in fact taken from the church.

Anyone with information on this burglary is asked to contact the Columbia Township Police Department at 517-592-3122.
