CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
Always lock your doors and windows when you go out, even if for a short period of time.
All windows should be equipped with a secondary security lock. Use a wooden dowel in the track of your windows and sliders.
All exterior doors should be of a solid core construction and have a deadbolt lock. This includes the door leading from the garage into your home.
Keep front and side garage doors closed when you are not present in and around the garage area.
If you have a safe, make sure it is properly secured to a concrete floor with bolts. Store your valuables and jewelry and always lock the safe.
Utilize your alarms. When on vacation have a trusted neighbor pick up your mail, newspapers and any flyers left on your porch. You may also request a Home Security check from Sheriff’s Retired Senior Volunteers (RSVP) Police Services to check the exterior of your home each day. Please call (949) 361-8269. Remember to have a timer on your interior lights.
Light your property well. Front, back and side. Motion sensors are good as well.
Do not open your door to strangers/solicitors, but let them know that someone is home. Respond through the closed door simply stating, “Not interested.” You may call Orange Co. Sheriff’s Dispatch non-emergency, (949) 770-6011 to report a solicitor. If the solicitor does not leave your property, call 9-1-1. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
