Wire Fraud in local party stores 
On Friday, July 19th and Saturday, July 20th, the Eastpointe Police Department investigated fraud commited by computer at two local party stores.
Each store is a Western Union transfer agent. A caller convinced the victims that their account had been disconnected from the Internet or they needed system updates. They were routed to a website that actually granted access to their computer from a remote and unknown location.
Over the course of the two days the suspects were able to transfer approximately $7,000 from one store and almost $9,000 from another. Western Union was able to discover the fraud and make valid contact with the stores. An investigation is on-going. The Eastpointe Police Department is sharing this information to prevent further fraud at our businesses.
