Newton Police warn residents about ongoing scams being reported to the police.

On Saturday 07/27/2013 a resident reported he was contacted by phone and advised his father has been kidnapped and needed to wire through Western Union $1,500.00 for his fathers release.

If calls of this nature are received residents should attempt to contact thier loved one, if possible make a note of the phone number of the original call, and contact the police.

On 07/26/2013 a resident received a phone call from an unknown party claiming to work for N-Star, stated money was owned on the account and credit information was needed or the electric would be cut.

Again if calls of this nature are received contact your utility provider to verify.

Residents are reminded never to give personal information over the phone, and never commit to anything financially before looking into it.
