Weekend drunk driving arrest.
On Sunday, July 28, 2013, at approximately 2:50 A.M., Officer Shawn Kotsch attempted to stop a driver that was driving erratically. The incident started on Jefferson Road, West of Hewitt Road.
Officer Kotsch activated his emergency lights, and the subject nearly drove into the ditch at Jefferson Road and Hewitt, prior to turning onto Hewitt Road. He continued to refuse to stop, and nearly struck two roadside signs, as well as mailboxes, as he continued South on Hewitt.
The driver, a 25 year-old male resident of Brooklyn, eventually came to a stop on Hewitt Road, stopping entirely in the traveled lane of the roadway. After coming to a stop, the driver put the vehicle in reverse, and jumped from the vehicle, fleeing on foot. The suspect’s vehicle did a low-speed bump to the front end of the patrol car, where it came to rest. The damage to the patrol car amounted to scuffs to the paint of the front bumper.
Officer Kotsch put his patrol car in park and chased down the suspect, taking him in to custody. He was able to secure the suspect’s vehicle (Chevrolet Monte Carlo) that had come to rest against the front of the patrol car, as well as a passenger in the suspect’s car. The suspect was taken in to custody for OWI, with a PBT/Blood Alcohol reading of approximately .25%.
The suspect was first transported to Allegiance Hospital, where a search warrant was completed for a blood sample, after which he was transported to the Jackson County Jail, where he was lodged.
On Monday, July 29, the suspect was charged with “Third Degree Fleeing”, a 5 year felony; “Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer”, a 2 year felony; and “Operating with a High Blood Alcohol Content”, 180 day misdemeanor.
As the suspect has not yet been arraigned, his name is not being released.
