The following is an excerpt from the IDOT - Bridge construction work on westbound Interstate 235 at the 73rd Street interchange (exit 3) will require closing the westbound exit ramp beginning Monday, Aug. 12, until approximately Monday, Oct. 7, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Des Moines construction office.

While work is taking place on the construction of the westbound I-235 auxiliary lane between the 63rd Street interchange (exit 4) and the 73rd Street interchange (exit 3) in Windsor Heights, the three westbound traffic lanes will be maintained.

The entrance ramp to westbound I-235 at exit 3 will be open while construction is taking place.

Later in the construction season, the westbound I-235 entrance ramp at exit 4 will be closed for approximately 11 days. Motorists wanting to get onto 73rd Street from westbound I-235 will need to exit at the 63rd Street interchange (exit 4), travel north on 63rd Street to University Avenue, and then west to 73rd Street.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
