Parks Bureau and South L.A. Community Come Together for the 4th Annual “Walk for Life”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau and multiple community based organizations are uniting on Saturday, August 10, 2013, for the 4th Annual “Walk for Life and “Day at the Park.” These events end a week of National Night Out events throughout the country. National Night Out began in 1984 in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The “Walk for Life” begins at Helen Keller Park, (1045 West 126th Street, Los Angeles) at 9:00 a.m. and ends at Earvin “Magic” Johnson Recreation Area, (905 East El Segundo Boulevard, Los Angeles). Additional walkers can join the Walk at the halfway point at Athens Park, (12603 South Broadway, Los Angeles) at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The “Day at the Park” will take place at Earvin “Magic” Johnson Recreation Area from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Those in attendance can enjoy the Youth Talent Show, Health and Resource Fair, Tiny Tot youth games, Church Choir Sing-off, free immunizations, and meet local law enforcement.
Come join in to promote peace and safety in our parks and neighborhoods.
For information on the event, contact Deputy Francine Rizzio at (310) 965-8659 or People for Community Improvement at (323) 303-3339.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Departments Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
