The Columbia Township Police Department reports that on Saturday, August 3, at approximately 3:00 A.M., a subject was involved in an accident where he left the roadway and collided with a parked vehicle on Hewitt Road. The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

The parked vehicle belonged to a resident of Hewitt Road, and it sustained significant damage. The suspect’s vehicle (a Dodge Magnum) was heavily damaged as well, including air bag deployment. Also struck by the suspect’s vehicle was a mailbox, a bush, and a guide wire for a utility pole.

Officer Shawn Kotsch’s investigation revealed the driver was heavily intoxicated, but not injured. After field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test (PBT), the driver was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated. His blood alcohol level was approximately .23%, almost three times the legal limit.

The suspect, a 21 year old male resident of Hewitt Road, was then transported to Allegiance for a blood draw, and he was then lodged at the Jackson County Jail, and has a court date pending.
