Home Invasion Suspects Arrested - Fruitport Township

Police have arrested three adult male subjects in connection with a number of reported home invasions and larcenies from vehicles in the areas of Fruitport Township and the Village of Fruitport.

At approximately 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 07, 2013, police were dispatched to a residence on Dennis Street in the Village of Fruitport. A resident called to report three male subjects with their faces covered with bandanas had attempted to forcefully gain entry into the caller’s home through a window.

The three subjects were reportedly confronted at gunpoint by an occupant of the residence with an announcement that the occupant had a gun. The subjects reportedly responded by saying they too had a gun at which point one of the subjects pointed a handgun at the occupant. No shots were fired, and the three subjects fled on foot.

Police units from Fruitport Township Police Department, Norton Shores Police Department, and a K-9 Unit from the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area to search for the subjects. Three suspects were taken into custody after a brief search. The three suspects were lodged at the Muskegon County Jail.

Through subsequent investigation, the handgun used by the offenders was recovered. This handgun was discovered to be stolen – along with multiple additional guns – from a separate home invasion on E. Fruitport Road the same night.

Fruitport Township Police Department, assisted by the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at a residence on S. Brooks Road where stolen guns, ammunition, and other stolen valuables were recovered. Recovered stolen items have been connected to a number of area incidents that took place throughout the night.

Police have been working with residents in the areas of Dennis Street, Douglas Street, Brooks Road, Leisure Lane, and E. Fruitport Road to reunite property with the rightful owners. The attached map depicts the area where police have identified multiple victims.

No one was injured in any of the incidents.

Police are investigating whether the suspects arrested in this incident may be involved in other incidents in the immediate and surrounding areas.

Anyone who may have additional information about this incident is asked to call the Fruitport Township Police Department at (231) 865-8477 or Silent Observer at (231) 72-CRIME.

No further information, including identifying information about the suspects, is being released by police at this time. Information regarding potential criminal charges for the suspects should be referred to the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office. Arraignments are anticipated to take place on Friday, August 09, 2013.

Victims who wish to inquire about recovered property should call Fruitport Township Police Department.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
