Northstar residents and visitors are advised of heavy smoke settling in the area especially during the afternoon from the American Fire in the Foresthill area approximately 50 miles west of Northstar. This tread will likely continue for the next few days while firefighters continue to attack the fire which is burning in extremely steep and difficult terrain. It is burning mostly heavy timber and is currently more than 800 acres in size. There is no threat to the Northstar area. Residents with medical issues exacerbated by smoke should take precautions such as staying indoors.
