Phone Scam Alert to Lake Lure Residents
It was reported to our office that a new phone scam is occurring in our area related to First Alert®, which is a home security company.
The caller claims they’re with First Alert “Group” a company representing itself as a security company.
First Alert® has posted a NOTICE REGARDING FIRST ALERT GROUP on their website, it states that in no way are they affiliated with First Alert Group. They further state that the First Alert Group calls and solicits personal information, including bank account numbers. Individuals who provide such information later discover that money has been debited from their accounts and not refunded despite repeated requests.
This scam, as with many scams that have occurred in our area, work off the information that you give them. The key, is to hang up. Do not engage in conversation with them and most of all, never, ever give your personal information over the phone.
