California Men Caught with Marijuana
Elkhart County – Indiana State Trooper Ted Bohner arrested two men Saturday on the Indiana Toll Road for felony dealing marijuana and possessing a handgun without a permit. The encounter, which started as a routine traffic stop, happened in the east bound lanes near the 100 mile marker in Elkhart County.
Trooper Bohner became suspicious of the two California men after talking with them. Bohner called his shift partner Trooper Nick Meade who responded with his K9 partner Sabre. Meade conducted an open air search of the black 2013 Kia with his K9 Sabre. Sabre alerted on the Kia showing a positive indication that drugs may be in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle uncovered several vacuum sealed packages of marijuana. The marijuana was hidden under clothing in the luggage. In all approximately 10 pounds of marijuana was found. Troopers also discovered a loaded 9mm hand gun in the passenger compartment and several hundred dollars in cash.
Arrested were the driver, Reader Lek, 30, and his passenger Heng Hov, 33. Both men are from Oakland City, California. They are currently being held in the Elkhart County Jail.
