Kopinski Appointed to Area Captain for ISP

On Monday August 19, 2013 Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter announced the promotion of Lieutenant Keith Kopinski to the position of Captain to serve as the Area Commander of the Toll Road, Bremen, and Ft. Wayne Posts.

Kopinski, a South Bend native and graduate of LaSalle High School, was appointed to the department in November 1986. Kopinski holds a bachelors degree from Indiana State University where he majored in criminal justice.

Kopinski was initially assigned to the Connersville Post in east central Indiana for two years before transferring to the Bremen Post. Kopinski earned his first promotion to the rank of sergeant in 1997. He received his second promotion in August 2008 when he was named the Assistant Commander of the Toll Road Post. In 2010 Kopinski was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assumed command of the Toll Road Post.

During his tenor, Kopinski has been a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon (T.I.P.), and a Field Training Officer (F.T.O.) for newly hired recruits. Kopinski is also a member of the Indiana State Police Possible Club. The Possible Club is a shooting award that is given out for outstanding marksmanship. Since the inception of the award in 1946, there have only been 280 troopers that have earned the Possible Club Award. Kopinski earned the distinction by shooting four perfect scores in two separate phases of the state police firearms program.

Captain Keith Kopinski resides in New Carlisle with his wife and two daughters.
