Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified person which occurred in the intersection of East Covina Hills Road and East Via Verda Street, unincorporated Covina on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 3:45 A.M.
At about 3:45 A.M., a deputy sheriff was driving Eastbound on East Covina Hills Road at mile marker 5, in the unincorporated community of Covina Hills, when he saw something burning alongside the shoulder of the road.
The deputy stopped to investigate and discovered the item that was on fire was a human body. The deputy extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher and checked to see if the person was still alive. Once it was determined that the person was deceased, investigators from Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau responded and assumed control of the investigation.
Although the investigation is ongoing, preliminary information suggests the body is an unknown male who was dumped at the location and set on fire.
The victim's age, identity and cause of death are unknown at this time and will be determined by the Coroner's Office.
