Distressed Vessel, 13 People, Grounded in Surf Zone, Assisted by #LASD Marina Del Rey & LACo Lifeguards

VICTIMS: 13 Adults
Marina del Rey Sheriff's Deputies and LACoFD Baywatch Lifeguards received a call of a distressed vessel in Marina Del Rey/ 300 yards north of the North Entrance- Venice Beach on Friday, August 23, 2013, at about 8:41 P.M.
First responders arrived and found a vessel grounded in the surf zone, with multiple people on the beach. There were also three people still aboard the vessel. Sheriff's deputies and lifeguards worked together to ensure everyone's safety.
According to statements made by the victims, they were traveling from Santa Monica Pier to Marina Del Rey. As the vessel approached the break-water it got too close to the shoreline and it was caught in the surf. An attempt was made to alter course but the vessel became grounded on the beach.
The vessel was pulled from the beach and towed to Marina Del Rey Station docks. No one was injured as a result of this collision.
