Elkhart Police Officers Involved in Fatal Shooting

Elkhart County – At the request of the Elkhart City Police Department the Indiana State Police are investigating a shooting that involved officers earlier today in Elkhart City. As part of the department’s protocol an outside agency was called in to complete the investigation.

Earlier this afternoon Elkhart City Police officer’s responded to a burglary in progress call at 332 West Hubbard. Upon arriving a foot pursuit ensued between officers and two individuals that were seen leaving the house. One subject was caught and arrested without incident by police at 312 West Lusher. The other suspect continued to 328 West Lusher where he was shot by police after the man pointed a gun at the officers.

No officers were injured in the shooting. However, the suspect died as a result of the police gunfire. The victim’s name will be released in the next 24 hours.

State police detectives are currently on scene interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting will be released over the next 48 hours by the Elkhart City Police Department.

No other information is available at this time. New information will be released as it becomes available.
