Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning death of an 8-month-old male infant that occurred on Friday, August 30, 2013, in a home in the 1500 block of Pass & Covina Road, Valinda.

At approximately 8:51 AM, Industry Sheriff's Station deputies responded to a call of a "baby drowning."

A preliminary investigation revealed the 25-year-old mother was bathing the infant in a bathtub along with his 1-year-old sister and 2-year-old brother.

The mother left all three siblings unattended in the bathtub for about ten to fifteen minutes. When she returned, she found the 8-month-old face down in the water and not breathing. The infant was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) personnel were notified and took the other two children into protective custody pending the homicide investigation.
