September is National Preparedness Month- Family Communications Plan
September is National Preparedness Month! Before sending the kids back to school, be sure to talk about a Family Communications Plan. More guidance can be found here: http://www.ready.gov/family-communications . With so much cell phone use, many people don't know important phone numbers by memory. It's important to write them down, and keep a copy with you if your cell phone isn't with you or is damaged! Parent's home and work numbers, school numbers, a nearby relative or friend, and an out-of-area contact in case of disaster.
If you do have cell phone access, remember that SMS or text messages can often be sent and received when phone calls aren't working. Make a plan, and discuss it with your family!
